The answer is, it depends!

If you are on the standard American diet, it certainly would be a good idea to improve your health and speed healing by opting for a plant-based diet of whole and raw foods, and to avoid any kind of refined and processed foods.

Go for natural foods instead of food products.

To make it clear: you should change your diet for sustainable health, not because it is required for homeopathic treatment.

The founder of homeopathy stressed the importance of diet and lifestyle in healing, and he recommended a frugal diet of natural foods.

Diseases have a cause, and malnutrition is cause of about 90% of modern illnesses. Those can be reversed and stopped by a change of diet.

You did not fall ill because you didn?t take enough homeopathic pillules. If your lifestyle is like that of most Americans, dietary errors over a long time are a major cause of your health problems.
Once you have become ill, homeopathy is the medicine to activate your immune system to heal you in a gentle and safe way.

To keep your new level of health, it is up to you to adjust your lifestyle. Homeopathy cannot save you from contracting all those illnesses caused by malnutrition. If you continue eating processed food, you are bound to get ill again despite homeopathy.

Below is a list of diseases caused by the standard American diet. It is long and scary.

* Caries, periodontal disease, tooth displacement

* Rheumatism, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, spine and spinal disc problems

* Obesity, diabetes, liver diseases, gall stones, kidney stones, gout etc.

* Constipation, gall bladder and pancreatic diseases, colitis, Crohn?s disease, digestive disorders

* Arteriosclerosis, heart attack, stroke, thrombosis

* Recurring respiratory inflammation, bladder infection, pyelitis

* Allergies, eczema

* Multiple sclerosis

* Cancer (not the sole cause)
To prevent and reverse the above diseases, simple dietary changes will do wonders.

* Replace refined flour and all food products made of refined flour with whole grain flour. It is best to buy the grains and mill it either in a blender or a grain mill. Do not grind ahead of use as the ingredients of grains turn rancid quickly when exposed to air. Use brown rice, whole grain noodles, etc.

* Include a large plate of raw vegetables from above and in ground with your meals. Eat the raw veggies before the cooked food as this will spare your immune system. On cooked food your body produces leucocytes as if it was dealing with an infection. It doesn?t when you eat raw food  before the cooked stuff.

* Be sure to use only natural fats and unrefined cold pressed oils. Natural fats are butter, cream, sour cream, nuts, olives, avocados, etc.

* Eat a dish of raw cereal for breakfast. This is a simple but highly health boosting means which has been in use in Europe for more than 60 years. Just coarsely blend 3 tbsp. whole oat kernels and combine it with cut-up fresh fruit, some nuts and a little whipping cream.

* Last not least, avoid all kinds of man-made sugar and sweeteners such as syrups even if they come from a health food store. Use sweet fruits or raw honey instead.

What are the Principles of Classical Homeopathy?

Classical homeopathy is based on the law of similar, the proving of remedies with healthy volunteer subjects, and the potentization (dilution and succussion = shaking) of the source substances. Observing all of the principles is essential for successful homeopathic cure.

1. The Law of Similar
The Law of Similar is considered the primary principle of homeopathy. It says that the curative remedy is to match a patient?s symptoms as close as possible. In other words, homeopathy functions and works with the recognition and understanding of the patient.

When the homeopath recognizes and understands the sick person?s personality including all of his complaints, his moods and state of mind, the homeopath will be able to find the homeopathic remedy that matches to the patient?s condition.

2. Proving of the Remedies
Provings are single and double-blinded experiments which yield the knowledge of the action of a remedy.

In a proving of a substance, small doses are given to groups of healthy volunteers who later record their detailed reactions to the test substance.

The leader of the proving collects and records any symptoms and changes reported by the provers over a period of one year. These may be simple physical sensations such as nausea in the morning, or heartburn after drinking coffee. Also symptoms of the mind and moods such as sadness, cheerfulness, and ambition are included. In addition, dreams, fears and special incidents during the period of proving are considered.

Provings with healthy individuals allow the creation of remedy pictures. A remedy picture is a list of characteristic symptoms that were experienced by the provers. Frequently, the provers experience similar symptoms.

It?s not uncommon for provers to dream of the same subject even though the provers are not allowed to communicate on their proving experience during the proving period

3. Potentization
Potentization of the source substance of the remedy is the third principle. Homeopathy uses substances derived from plants, animals, minerals, chemicals and nosodes. (Nosodes are pathogens.)

Those substances are not administered in their original rude form. Instead they are diluted and vigorously shaken (succession). Dilution and succession unlock the scope of action and potentizes the effects of a remedy. The process of potentization eliminates toxicity of any toxic substance such as arsenic,  belladonna, or a pathogen.

4. Single Dose Remedy
Only one remedy at a time is given in the smallest possible amount.
Observing the principles of classical homeopathy allows gentle, safe and effective healing as described and recorded by Hahnemann. It is an individual prescription tailored to the unique condition of a person.

What are the origins of homeopathy and where is it practiced today?

Homeopathy's roots emerge from the findings, teachings and writings of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). He was a physician, chemist and scientific translator. The birthday of homeopathy is 1796 when Hahnemann first published his findings.

Homeopathy became spectacularly popular in Europe and in the United States in the 1800s. European royalty, religious leaders, American entrepreneurs and writers were among its strongest advocates.

It was successful in treating the epidemics raging at the time including cholera, typhoid, measles, scarlet and yellow fever with a mortality rate of 3 to 6% or less versus 30 to 70% mortality of conventional medicine.

As it was gaining widespread popularity, it was vigilantly opposed by establishment medicine. This opposition led to a decline of homeopathy in the 20th century, in the United States. Other nations including Europe and Asia, were experiencing a steady growth of homeopathic teachings and interest.

Recent Development: Homeopathy is the World's Fastest Growing Medicine
In the United States, since 1970 public interest has risen again, and homeopathy is coming back in North America.

Meanwhile it is used all over the world to treat humans, animals and plants with impressive results in acute and even severe chronic conditions.

Homeopathy in the World

Today, all French and German pharmacies sell homeopathic remedies. In France, 30% of all physicians prescribe homeopathic medicines, 20% in Germany, and 40% in the UK.

Homeopathy has been integrated into the healthcare systems of many European countries including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Portugal.

Mahatma Gandhi promoted homeopathy in India where it is recognized as one of the three pillars of public medicine together with Ayurveda and Western medicine.

In India, today there are over 200,000 registered homeopathic practitioners, 215 homeopathic hospitals and 7,000 homeopathic dispensaries.

There are homeopathic colleges with a four to five year training in homeopathy. Indian homeopaths are known for their expertise in treating very severe cases including cancer.

* The Indian government controls epidemics of malaria, Japanese encephalitis, dengue fever, and epidemic fever with homeopathy

* The Cuban government now depends on the homeopathic preparation of medicines (no provings) to manage its leptospirosis epidemics and dengue fever outbreaks.

* The Brazilian government funded two large trials that successfully reduced the incidence of meningococcal disease in those given the homeopathic prophylactic.

* The governments of Thailand, Colombo and Brazil use homeopathy to manage dengue fever outbreaks and epidemics. http://homeopathyplus.com.au/Homeoprophylaxis-Human-Records-Studies-Trials.pdf

In Germany, med students must take at least one introductory course in homeopathy. The German agricultural department sponsors courses in homeopathy for farmers to enable them to treat their animals without antibiotics.

Brazil has adopted homeopathy for the public health service in 2006, and it is popular in Russia, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, England, Argentina and Mexico, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Clinical evidence accumulated over more than 200 years of use demonstrates that homeopathic medicine is the viable alternative to standard medicine. It is a scientific system of medicine that is proven safe and effective.  200 years later it is still doing the same.

What is a modality and how does it help me decide on a remedy?

In homeopathy, the name of a disease or a symptom is not sufficient for the selection of a matching remedy. To select a curative remedy, you need to detect the conditions which make you feel better or worse. A condition which makes you or a symptom better or worse is called a modality.

Modalities are one part of the complete symptom. The complete symptom is the detailed description of your complaint.

A modality can be as simple as fresh air or cold drinks. It could also be something very contradictive such as stomach pain which improves when drinking coffee or the aversion of company while being afraid of being alone.
Modalities let us distinguish one remedy from another.

There are hundreds of remedies which have caused a particular symptom in a proving. They differ in their modalities. Therefore modalities help you find the remedy which corresponds best to your symptom or condition.

Without modalities, it is nearly impossible to find the corresponding medicine.
So when searching for a remedy, you first need to find those that come up with the symptom you want to cure. From those preselected remedies, you select a remedy that is associated with the same modalities as your symptom.

Modality categories

* Time (of the day, week (e. g. worse  at 4 p.m., in the evening, in the evening in bed, before midnight, at night, at midnight,  after midnight, early in the morning, 3 a. m., 4 a.m., a.m., after sleeping, before breakfast, after breakfast etc.)

* Seasons and time of the moon (spring, summer, fall, winter, dampness, humidity, full moon, new moon, changing moon phases, wind, East wind, North wind,  etc.)

* Weather and air, temperature (humidity, wind, draft, dampness, cold, getting cold, warmth, weather changes, wrapping up and warm packs, a hot bath, fresh air etc.)

* Physical touch and pressure

* Position/posture (standing, getting up from sitting, getting up from laying down, sitting down)

* Motion (moving the body, moving a limb, turning the suffering limb, getting up from bed, rising sitting down, lying, bending, stretching, walking, jogging etc.)

* Body activity (coughing, singing, talking, sneezing, after sleeping, while eating, drinking smoking etc.)

* Sensory (odors, touch, noise, bright light)

* Psychological (from excitement, overwork, insult, trauma, being alone, being among others, mental efforts, anger, fright, fear, sudden loss etc.)

The sources of homeopathic remedies are plants, animal substances such as bee's venom, minerals, chemicals, and pathogens.

They are prepared by licensed homeopathic pharmaceutical manufacturers, and approved by the FDA. Many source substances are poisonous, so they are diluted.

They are non-toxic and do not cause any side effects because they are prepared in a unique way. This special preparation brings out remarkable healing capacities within each individual substance.

Each remedy is prepared by a controlled process of successive dilutions alternating with succusion (vigorous shaking) which may be continued to the point where the resulting medicine contains no molecules of the original substance.

The more you dilute a remedy, the more effective it becomes provided it is done in this way.

Here is how you do it:

You start out with combining one drop of substance with 99 drops of water. This mixture is shaken vigorously ten times. The result is a mixture diluted 100 times.

When you buy it, it is labeled 1C. You take one drop of the C1 solution, and add it to another 99 drops of water which then yields a concentration of one part in thousand.  The label then is 2C. This process is continued as much as 1000 times or more. A C1000 has been diluted and shaken a thousand times.

The number of the label indicates how many times a remedy has been shaken and diluted.

These small doses are called potencies. Lesser dilutions are known as low potencies. The higher the dilution when prepared in this manner, the greater the potency of the medicine.

The process of potentization makes it possible to use substances such as certain metals, charcoal and sand, which are inert in their natural state, and poisonous substances as medicines.

A potentized remedy does not contain sufficient matter to act directly on the tissue. This means a homeopathic medicine is non-toxic and cannot cause side effects. In over 200 years of use, no homeopathic remedy has ever been recalled.

The power of the infinitesimal dose is not clearly understood but neither was the action of aspirin and many other drugs.

Experience shows that those minute doses trigger a healing response in our organism if the homeopathic remedy is chosen right. It is not the remedy that does the healing, it is our own vital force or immune system.

The Homeopath vs. The Allopath vs. The Naturopath

There are many different forms of medicine and it can get confusing to understand what each branch actually does.  If you've wondered about the difference between a homeopath, allopath, and naturopath read on for clarification.

Allopathic medicine is what you would consider typical Western medicine.  This is medicine that uses pharmaceuticals, surgery, and other modern practices.  This is a term that many providers of alternative medicine use as a distinction between typical Western medicine and more natural approaches.

Homeopathy is a type of alternative medicine that began in Germany in the early 1800's.  This type of medicine practices the ?law of similar's? which promotes the idea of using a medicine that creates the symptoms similar to the symptoms a patient is experiencing form the illness.

It also follows the principle that one remedy should treat all of the symptoms.  This type of medicine uses very small doses of medicine and it focuses on making certain that the mind, body, and spirit are equally treated.

Homeopathic medicine does emphasize healthy behaviors such as good nutrition and exercise, but it focuses more on how those behaviors affect one spiritually rather than just physically.

Finally, naturopathic medicine is a type of medicine that has a broader scope.  Homeopathy is a type of naturopathic medicine, but not all naturopathic medicine is homeopathic.

This type of medicine includes any medicine that is natural such as Chinese medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, or manipulation.  Usually when one talks about a naturopathic doctor, it is someone who has received a medical education and may even be licensed to perform specific procedures.

If you?re interested in alternative medicine, you?ll want to do your homework as you look for a naturopathic practitioner or a homeopathic practitioner to make sure that you get the treatment that you really want.

There really aren?t any standard definitions for these types of medicine, so you may find that someone refers to himself as a general naturopath, but practices a very specific type of healing.

And some people use the term homeopathic incorrectly when they mean to say the more general term of naturopath.  When you start to look for alternative healthcare providers, know that you may have to do a little extra research and ask specific questions in order to find the type of care you desire.

All forms of medicine can have advantages and disadvantages, but it helps to start with a working knowledge of accurate terms.

Can Homeopathy Help People With Mental and/or Behavior Problems (Autism, ADHD, Depression)?

From its very beginnings, homeopathy has helped and cured people with mental and psychiatric problems. In 1792, 4 years before the founder of homeopathy Samuel Hahnemann, MD, published his findings on homeopathy, he cured the insane man Klockenbrink and had him live with him in his own house.

At that time, mentally ill and insane persons were chained in asylums when they were raging. Hahnemann had come up with plans for a psychiatric hospital in 1790!

So there is a long history of homeopathic cure of mental and behavioral problems.

Homeopathy is still effective with mental and behavior problems today.

In our day, the homeopathic Swiss pediatrician Dr. Heiner Frei, MD, has fine-tuned the treatment of ADHD in children, and when done with the right homeopathic methods, the success rate is around 70% - without any side effects for the child.

Dr. Heiner Frei has conducted the now famous Berne ADS/ADHS Double Blind Study from 2000 to 2005. The study was consistent with strict standards of conventional medicine and has proven the efficiency of homeopathy as a scientific method.

Homeopathy is reported to be effective in the treatment of autism too. You can find many case stories on the internet for details. The treatment of autism takes a lot longer than the treatment of ADHS.

Which Mental Illnesses Can be Treated with Homeopathy?
According to Dr. Carlos N. C mpora MD, (Argentina), homeopathy can cure or palliate nearly every mental illness.

In general, fears, phobias including social phobias, obsessional neuroses, disturbances in learning, ADHS in children, depression and many other mental illnesses respond well to homeopathic treatment.

Why do Mentally Ill Persons Choose Homeopathy?

Like many other patients, they opt for homeopathy because conventional treatment is not effective and comes with side effects.

In most cases, homeopathy can completely replace pharmaceutical drugs. However, sometimes both conventional and homeopathic therapy are needed temporarily. Examples for this need are the initial phase of homeopathic treatment when the curative remedy is being sought, or when a person has been on psychopharmaca or psychiatric drugs. Those drugs must be reduced gradually before they are no longer needed.

Psychiatric drugs can be addictive which makes it hard to withdraw. Homeopathy helps to avoid or reduce the typical symptoms of relapse and withdrawal once the drug is stopped. It also improves the general well-being of an individual, which makes the transition easier.
Homeopathic remedies are not addictive.

Where are the Limits of Homeopathy?

This question is hard to answer. Experience shows that the limits of homeopathy are found in the individual case. Of course, homeopathy cannot cure a dementia which has been caused by an illness of blood vessels because destroyed tissue cannot be cured. However, frequently a general improvement and a slowdown of the progression of the illness can be achieved.

On the other hand, schizophrenics, mentally retarded and endogen depression have been completely cured by experienced homeopathic psychiatrists.

If you have a very serious chronic health condition, it may be necessary to seek Western medical care or a homeopathic physician, but in many cases a guide like Everybody’s Guide to Homeopathic Medicines: Safe and Effective Remedies for You and Your Family will provide you with enough information to treat yourself at home.

Homeopathy is a specific type of practice that subscribes to several guiding principles. For example, the Law of Similar's is the idea that your body can heal itself and that introducing symptoms similar to the ones you are experiencing will actually help it to heal.

You’ll also find the Single Medicine principle. While you might leave a physician’s office with multiple prescriptions to fight different conditions and symptoms, homeopathic medicine will prescribe only one medicine.

Two people can have the same symptoms but have totally different homeopathic prescriptions because in homeopathy the idea is to look at the whole person not just those symptoms.

Homeopathic medicines are very dilute solutions that contain plant extracts, minerals, animal extracts, and even some synthetic materials. But they are so dilute that there is no way they can be toxic for the body.

While most pharmaceuticals work chemically to make changes in the body, homeopathic remedies work in a different way. The exact mechanism for how they work isn’t completely known. However, many researchers have suggested that electromagnetic energy may be one mechanism for their effectiveness.

Regardless of how they work, homeopathic practitioners have known for hundreds of years that they do work. And with this guide you’ll be able to learn which remedies will work for you depending on your needs.

If you’ve been interested in homeopathic medicine, but you weren’t sure how to get started, this book is a great resource for you. It covers a wide range of health topics and conditions along with sound advice.
